TASK B PART 2

d. Design a civil rights movement poster for Maycomb.\

Hi Readers,
This is my poster, sorry that its abit off size :P.
The black and white shaking hands show peace between them.
Both hands have a watch, and have a sleeve, this actually shows that both races should have equal rights.
The words " You will definitely feel warmth when shaking hands " Means that the white will feel better if they have equal rights and peace with the blacks.

That's all.
Please comment in the tagboard. :D

Task B

a. Do a research on the natural habitat of mockingbird. In your research, include the kind of flora and fauna you think exist in Maycomb and explain why the mockingbirds live in Macomb.[Naturalist]

Mocking birds are group of birds from the Mimidae family. They are known to mimic the voice of insects, other birds and amphibians, often loud and rapid in succession. There are around 17 species of Mockingbirds in 3 Genre.

HABITAT

Mocking birds live in open country with thickets, farmland and desert brush.

They breed from northern California, eastern Nebraska, southern Ontario, and Maritime Canada southward. Mockingbird also spends winters in the southern part of range. They are often found around in residential areas, city parks, farmlands, open country with thickets, and desert brush.

Mockingbirds are very comfortable around people. They now range from parts of southern Canada to southern Mexico. Some mockingbirds, typically those in the west, and in the northern most part of their range in Canada, migrate toward warmer regions south or to the coast. The Mockingbird is the state bird of Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee and Mississippi.

The diet of the mockingbird consists of ants, beetles, grasshoppers, seeds and berries.

During the fall and winter mockingbirds prefer to eat wild fruits consisting of holly, pokeberry, blackberry, sumac and Virginia creeper and defend these areas aggressively. They eat insects all year long but especially during the breeding season.

Both parent mockingbirds are very territorial when they are nesting. They will defend their nests from any animals they think are predators. This includes people. If you get too close to a nest, even in your own yard, they may "dive-bomb" you. Don't worry, they have never been known to hurt anyone, but it is probably very stressful for the bird.

Mockinbird nests are built with sticks, weed stems, grasses, moss, hair, rootlets, dry leaves, and trash.

The table shown above is very important in terms of the Mockingbird’s relationship to nature. It also give us a rough idea where the Mockingbird resides or the characteristics of their Habitat.

I think that Maycomb should be a place full of different plants such as the Red Maple, or Spice bush that aid the Mockingbird in terms of shelter. The flora also includes Sassafras which is a source of food for the birds. The Mockingbirds can survive in many different kinds of habitats as they have a wide variety of food source. Adding on, they are also friendly with humans.

However, they do have a few predators. I infer that Maycomb would rarely have them around for the existence of the predators will only scare the mockingbirds. The mockingbirds also have a loud voice when they mimic other birds, if there are predators around, they would be attracted to the Mockingbirds. Hence, it is essential that the Maycomb has very few or no predators at all. Maycomb must also have a widespread of insects everywhere to feed the mocking birds.

To conclude, Maycomb has a widespread of insects and flora and fauna to shelter and feed the Mockingbird. The place also has very few predators like the Black rat snake, owl or hawk.

Characterization Analysis of Mrs. Dubose

This is our picture of Dubose.
She is depicted as an old
woman who sits on a wheel
chair as described in the story.

However, in our photo, her
face is not as ferocious as the
first half of the story has
described.

This is because we wanted to
show 2 sides of Mrs Dubose to
every one.

Her Courageous side and her
racist side.

Behind her is a wall that reads "Get lost Niggers!"
This shows how she is as her racist.

Now, let us describe how I and Jing Yu created the image.
1. Traced a photo of an old woman in Adobe Flash CS4
2. Painted the woman using Adobe Flash CS4
3. Background : Using gradiant to make the background of the Sky
4. Next, for the grass. Filter>Render green surface.
5. Font: Green Color font used to type the text.
6.Wall : Filter>Texturize. Customized the brown surface to look like a wall.
7. Graffti on Wall, used a special font. Rotated the word " Nigger" Drop shaddow effect, inner shadow, satin etc.
8. Nigger with a cross, drew it with Adobe Photoshop CS4 Paint brush.
9. Sun: Cropped.
10. Clouds: Filter.
11. The names of the sole creators : Lionell and Jing Yu: Special Font.

E-Learning

Task A

Hi Readers,

As requested on Mr Siew's wiki, this is the result of my multiple intelligence based on

http://www.bgfl.org/bgfl/custom/resources_ftp/client_ftp/ks3/ict/multiple_int/questions/results.cfm.

I had once attended a Multiple Intelligence talk in 2009 by the creator of this, Dr. Branton Shearer.
In his talk he elaborated on the application of the different aspects of intelligence, he even taught
us how to improve it.Here is my reflections from the MI talk by Dr. Shearer.

Reflections

From the MI profile, I have gained a lot of knowledge. I personally felt that the workshop has raised each and all of the participants’ intrapersonal. The MI portfolio was accurate and had made me realize lots of things about myself. It truly reflected all the strong points or flaws I have. Since I was given the privilege to know of such things, I realized I had to deal with them effectively to be a better person on the whole. To strengthen my strong points and to utilize them and to ‘cover up’ on my flaws, I felt that it was not easy but definitely helpful.

The workshop also covered on ‘leadership’. Dr Branton Shearer himself shared with us a simple, yet interesting experience of his, in which from it he learnt more about leadership. Regarding all the points to be an effective leader that he had mentioned, I totally agreed with it, however, I wondered, had I ever practiced them? Well, that’s a totally different question!

During the midst of the workshop, I recounted the few rare incidents of me showing my leadership potential, I realized that those experiences were something that I wanted and needed to increase such that I might be a great use of the society when I have grown up.

When most of the participants were quite tired after half a day’s sabbaticals and could not focused on his talk, Dr. Shearer was able to think of the most effective solution to solve our problems. He allowed us a 15 minutes tea break for us to take a bite and have a drink so as to refresh ourselves. He also spent some time doing short exercises with us so that we could be more alert. It was definitely effective as it worked well on me.

Dr. Branton Shearer also cleared our doubts with patience, once, I had a burning question but wasn’t able to phrase myself properly, Dr. Branton Shearer then asked me to see him after the workshop so as to clarify my doubt. He answered with patience when I had further doubts and eventually left me with a satisfied answer. The speaker also prepared his handouts well. The handouts were really useful, ranging from methods to utilize our strengths to methods to cover our weakness. I will refer to it to overcome my weaknesses.

To end off, I think the workshop was really good, it taught me about leadership qualities a effective leader should possess and how to be a better person on a whole.

Reflections for New Multiple Intelligence Result

This is my second time doing the Multiple Intelligence Test. I was actually quite keen on knowing how much the statistics has risen this time. To my horror(Exaggerated),other than except visual and musical, almost all aspects of intelligence has decreased! On careful thinking, I realised that I had not been detoriarating, through the span of half a year, I had learnt more about myself. The questions this time, were answered with more accuracy then the first time. Simple speaking, I did not know myself well that time and actually submitted inaccurate options.

In the past, I was always confident about my math, my sports and my intrapersonal. But looking back, I have alot to improve on, really. This time, I will try to improve my intrapersonal and my mathematics by socializing more and doing more math practices.

I can do it.

Introduction

Hi Readers,

I am Lionell Loh from 2P2 19.

This is the blog for my LA postings.

From To Kill a Mocking Bird Analysis of Mrs Dubose to Speech writing.

Yes, this are assignments to be graded for ACE by my English teacher, Mr. Daniel Siew.

As an introduction, I would also like to talk about my blog title.

" Looking for precise english? Yes, it was here."

It was here before I created this blog. Which means that before that, what you

would have seen is the page stating that the blog is not in use, yea, the text is

written in perfect and precise english. However, now that I have created this blog

along with my postings, present to you is not precise english any longer.

Well, I have acknowledged the fact that my posts are bound to be flawed either

in terms of grammer or misuse of vocab. However, I am not going to be a sitting

duck, this blog will also be an avenue to improve my English. I would not look too

much in to my vocabulary as I would like to take it one step at a time.

My English teachers has always pointed out to me my tendency of commiting

grammer mistakes in Compositions, letter writing or speech writing.

Hence, do point out to me my grammer mistakes you manage to spot for each

post by commenting. I will take note of that. Thanks in advance.

Other than that, I will be introducing a word every post that is of course,

expressive. Not only will this benefit everybody, I will also learn something out of

it. This word will not be one that is commonly sighted too.

So, here comes...

Word of the post :Tranquil

–adjective

1.
free from commotion or tumult; peaceful; quiet; calm: a tranquil country place.

2.
free from or unaffected by disturbing emotions; unagitated; serene; placid: a tranquil life.

Example: The evil monkey ruined Chris Griffin's life in the "Family Guy".
Example 2: After the snow storm, the wood seems tranquil with the the fresh fallen snow.

Yea, that's all. Thank you for reading and GoodBye!

Last Lesson of the Afternoon

Last Lesson of the Afternoon- D.H Lawrence

1a. What are the persona's feelings described in the first three stanzas of this poem? Explain how the poet described these feelings through the use of alliteration, metaphor and pun.

The persona was angry as described by the literacy devices. In the first line, the word used was " weariness", it described that the lesson has been wearing down himself/herself and she yearn for it to end. Though it is not a literacy device, it still manage to describe the persona's feelings.

In the third line, metaphor was used, " My pack of unruly hounds" were referring to his class of students who were unruly, this device showed us how the teacher see his lesson and students as. On the third line, " Them again on a quarry of knowledge they hate to hunt."
The word quarry is a pun, referring to both 'prey' and 'the vastness of knowledge'. This showed what the teacher thinks about his students' attitude in learning and seeking of knowledge.
In the fifth line " I can haul them and urge them no more.", this showed that the teacher can no longer push them to learn nor urge while 'hual' is a metaphor. In the first line of the 2nd stanza, 'brunt' was used, a metaphor that depicts the teacher not being able to endure teaching his students.

On the forth line was the word 'sick', the teacher was sick and unable to carry on and he didn't see any good teaching the students and resulting himself being sick. In the third stanza , 2nd line, " My last fuel of life to heap on my soul" describes that the teacher only had a fuel of life left which refers to his energy after teacher the troublesome class of students.

In the last two lines of the third stanza, " Their dross of indifference; and take the toll. Of their insults in punishment? -I will not!- " The pun used was 'Toll' toll refer to the hardship and also the tax civilians had to pay, in this case, the teacher wanted to show that he shall no take the hardship nor pay the tax of their insults. All of it sum up to show that the teacher was angry.

1b. How is the tone of anger in this poem illustrated?

The tone of anger was illustrated mainly by the description of the students' impression to the teacher and the teachers' desires. "My pack of unruly hounds! I cannot start!" This show that the teacher thought about the students as unruly hounds and hence he could not teach. He was also angry that the students were unruly.

Puns and metaphors were also used to illustrate the tone of anger. For example, " Them again on a quarry of knowledge they hate to hunt, I can haul them and urge them no more." 'Hunt' and ' Haul' were the metaphors used, it showed that the students did not want to seek for knowledge and the hence the teacher can no longer push nor urge them anymore. The complain the teacher made illustrated the tone of anger of the poem.
The poet also wrote " I am sick, and what on earth is the good of it all?" ' Sick' is used as a metaphor to show that the teacher is tired and weak from teaching the students with a tinge of anger felt. Thirdly, " last dear fuel of life' also emphasizes on how weak the teacher had deteriorate to after teaching his unruly students. Due to his students' attitude towards learning and their behavior, the teacher became angry with them, for example, " Their dross of indifference; and take the toll. Of their insults in punishment? - I will not!- " The teacher did not want to take their insults and was angry and complaining about their attitude.
